Cole Moody hit a grand slam in the third inning and 11th-seeded Muhlenberg went on to knock off third-seeded Waynesboro 9-7 in the District 3 Class 6A baseball quarterfinals on Monday at Waynesboro.
The Muhls (13-7) have beaten two higher seeds in the tourney and now face second-seeded Ephrata at 7 p.m. Thursday at War Memorial Stadium.
Last Friday, Muhlenberg beat sixth-seeded Manheim Township 6-3.
In the other semifinal on Thursday, No. 5 Chambersburg plays at top-seeded Hempfield.
Trailing 3-0 heading into the top of third, Moody’s grand slam was the big blow in a seven-run inning. The Muhls tacked on two more runs in the fifth for a 9-4 lead. Waynesboro scored single runs in each of the last four innings and stranded a total of 12 runners on base in the game.
Carter Burr had two RBIs for the Muhls, and Aiden Bonte had two hits.
Ryan Rosenberry came on to pitch for Muhlenberg in the third inning and threw four innings, giving up three runs and striking out five to get the win. Cooper Burr pitched the seventh inning.
East Pennsboro 10, Oley Valley 3
Sophomore Elijah Brown went 4 for 4 with five RBIs to lead third-seeded East Pennsboro to a 10-3 District 3 Class 4A quarterfinal win over No. 6 Oley Valley on Monday.
East Pennsboro (18-3) hosts seventh-seeded Big Spring in a semifinal game on Thursday.
Gryffin Cappellano, Luke Manwiller and Danny Fries each had RBIs for Oley, which finishes its season 15-5.
Three East Pennsboro pitchers combined on a three-hitter.
