DiJonai Carrington took Sophie Cunningham out with a heavy foul during the Chicago Sky’s loss. While some have criticised Carrington’s actions, she recently spoke about how her teammates feel.

There is no need for extra spice in games between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky. The two teams tend to play out some thrillers, but there was an extra flashpoint in their most recent clash.

In a game that Indiana eventually won 90-86, DiJonai Carrington took Sophie Cunningham out with a heavy foul in transition. Considering that Cunningham has been in the middle of all the recent discourse, this has received plenty of attention.

And while fans and even media figures have had their say, Carrington’s actions impacted none of them as directly as they did her Sky teammates. Now, how they felt about it has been revealed.

DiJonai Carrington says she’s not surprised by how much her teammates have supported her​

As the WNBA continues to grow exponentially, athletes are getting used to becoming targets on social media. DiJonai Carrington is no stranger to this.

Considering Cunningham’s public profile and loyal fanbase, it’s not surprising to know Carrington received a lot of abuse following her foul. But she revealed that her teammates supported her completely.


“I’m not surprised by the group that we have and how they constantly checked on me,” Carrington said.

“I’ve luckily dealt with this social media nonsense before, so it honestly doesn’t faze me anymore. I’m on to the next game.”

Cunningham herself has earned a reputation as an enforcer. So it makes sense that a lot of the W’s other stars don’t have a lot of sympathy for the Fever player in this situation.

The Sky have also proven themselves to be a tight-knit group. Although they aren’t quite enjoying the ideal season, this type of supportive locker-room culture is a foundational block for future success.
