Buffalo Sabres center Tage Thompson will probably walk back some of the comments he made about visiting the White House after the U.S. men's hockey team won the gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

When describing his meeting with President Donald Trump and his visit to the White House this week, Thompson made curious comments about whether or not he'd ever get the chance to do this again.

Per The Athletic's Matthew Fairburn, Thompson said that his White House visit "was a very cool experience and something that I'll probably never get to do again."

While Thompson is probably just talking about the long odds for the U.S. men's team winning the gold again while he's on the team, it's hard for Sabres fans to read that and not think about if he's referencing Buffalo's chances to win a Stanley Cup.

If Thompson doesn't think that he'll ever get to visit the White House with the Sabres, that, uh, won't go over well with Buffalo's fan base. However, in a generous read, he probably just means with the U.S. men's team.

Buffalo has 70 points and sits fourth in a very tight Atlantic Division, so the NHL postseason is absolutely in view for the Sabres. Perhaps Thompson will be back at the White House sooner than he thinks?
