PHILADELPHIA — Right fielder Corbin Carroll is out of the Diamondbacks’ lineup for the second consecutive day due to a left hip issue, but he continues to remain upbeat about his progress and is hopeful about a return to action sometime this weekend.

“Definitely feels better,” he said before the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, April 10. “Definitely in a better spot today. Hoping that it’s continuing to trend the right way. Still available off the bench.”

Carroll said he has been dealing with left hip flexor irritation since legging out a triple April 8 in New York. On that play, his helmet came flying off and bounced off his ankle, which he thinks might have contributed to the hip issue.

“I had two separate coaches say they saw me running weird from second to third,” he said. “I didn’t notice it. But it all kind of lines up. I think between the cold, the helmet, maybe taking a weird step, just kind of aggravated the hip flexor a little bit. But, hopefully, it’s seeming like nothing too serious.”

Carroll has not needed to undergo an MRI or any other imaging, an indication that the club does not consider the injury serious.

He said returning to the lineup on Saturday, April 11, or Sunday, April 12, is “definitely within the realm of possibility.”

“Have a good work day today and take it from there,” he said. “Definitely hoping to contribute to this series.”
