DFB president Neuendorf blasts Infantino after FIFA investment U-turn

German Football Association (DFB) president Bernd Neuendorf has welcomed FIFA's latest decision, describing it as an unavoidable outcome while criticizing the governing body's recent leadership under Gianni Infantino.

In a strongly-worded statement, Neuendorf said:

"This step by FIFA was inevitable. The attempt to open FIFA competitions to private investors has failed spectacularly. This is, among other things, thanks to the very united stance of all UEFA member associations.The events surrounding this project initiated by Gianni Infantino must now be fully clarified.The FIFA President acted unilaterally, without transparency and ultimately irresponsibly in the interests of football. Together with UEFA and other confederations, we must ensure that a fundamentally different culture is established at FIFA. A culture in which decisions are once again discussed and made by the members within the relevant bodies."

Neuendorf's comments come after FIFA abandoned its controversial plans to open its competitions to private investors. The DFB chief credited the united opposition of UEFA's member associations for the outcome and urged FIFA to adopt a more transparent and collaborative decision-making process going forward.
