Germany crashed out of the World Cup after losing on penalties to Paraguay, and fans have started to question what the actual problem is, considering the fact that Germany has not won a single knockout game in the World Cup since their victory in 2014. It looks like the DFB is wondering the same thing, and is keeping those in charge accountable.

DFB president Bernd Neuendorf has released a critical official statement addressing the national team’s failure in North America, captured by @iMiaSanMia.

Neuendorf confirmed that he has already held an extensive, high-level crisis meeting with head coach Julian Nagelsmann, along with the DFB’s sporting directors Andreas Rettig and Rudi Völler. “We are all in agreement that our performance at the World Cup fell short of our expectations. In the coming days, we will calmly and thoroughly examine the reasons why the team was unable to fulfill its potential and failed to live up to both its own expectations and those of German football. In light of such a severe setback and with the challenges ahead, we cannot and will not simply carry on as if nothing has happened,” he said.

“We would like to thank all the fans who supported us so magnificently in the United States and Canada, as well as those back home. We are all deeply disappointed that our journey together has come to an end so early,” he said to end his statement. Neuendorf is aware that fans across Germany and the rest of the globe are expecting a top-to-bottom restructuring of the national team, most likely beginning with the management and then moving to the squad itself. Perhaps after this overhaul of the squad they have begun, we will see a completely new Germany in the upcoming international tournaments. Considering the talent they have access to, it shouldn’t be so hard.

Do you think Julian Nagelsmann should be dismissed after this World Cup failure, or does he deserve the chance to lead the rebuild? Let us know in the comments!
