CLEVELAND – The Detroit Tigers will have to wait until August for the next chance to end their losing streak against the Guardians this season, when they host Cleveland at Comerica Park. After losing the first two here at Progressive Field, the series finale was postponed due to weather on Sunday, June 14.
The teams will make up the game with a doubleheader on Friday, Sept. 4, when the Tigers return to Cleveland for a weekend series.
The Tigers are 0-6 against their AL Central rival, and all but one of the games have played out the same way: The Tigers hang around, but fall just short.
THE KID: Kevin McGonigle doing 'epic' things, but Tigers can't rise to his level
Right-hander Casey Mize was scheduled to pitch Sunday after a stint on the 15-day injured list due to abductor inflammation. Mize will now make his return start Wednesday in Houston. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch didn't want to disrupt the rotation further by pushing back Troy Melton and Framber Valdez's starts Monday and Tuesday in Houston.
Tarik Skubal's next start will be Friday, June 19, back at Comerica Park against the surprising Chicago White Sox, who are fighting for the American League Central lead after two straight 100-loss seasons.
The doubleheader games in Cleveland in September are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
