For the first time in a decade, fans can watch a Major League Baseball player go through a rehab start at UPMC Park on Tuesday.
Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch announced at a news conference on Monday, June 22, that relief pitcher Jack Flaherty will make a start for the SeaWolves at UPMC Park on Tuesday, June 23, at 6:05 p.m.
It is the first MLB rehab for the SeaWolves since starting pitcher Daniel Norris started a game during the 2016 season.
Flaherty, 30, was a first-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2014 draft out of high school. He spent seven years in the big leagues with St. Louis and was traded to the Orioles in 2023 for prospects.
More: Erie SeaWolves finish the first half in second place after homer streak
The Tigers signed him in December of 2023 and traded him to the Dodgers in 2024 for current SeaWolves catcher Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney. Detroit picked him again out of free agency in February of 2025.
Flaherty was injured during an appearance on June 12 against Cleveland. He slipped on the mound and was diagnosed with a strain of the left peroneal tendons in his lower left leg/ankle area.
