Zack Short is returning to the Detroit Tigers organization.

Tigers made a minor-league trade Friday to acquire Short, and infielder, from the Washington Nationals for a cash consideration or a player to be named.

Short will report to Triple-A Toledo.

Short, 30, played for the Tigers from 2021-23, appearing in 177 games. He hit .266 with 13 home runs and 55 RBIs during his time in Detroit. He's also played for the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Houston Astros.

Short has played second base, shortstop and third base during his major-league career, while also making a handful of appearances in the outfield.

He has appeared in 21 games this season for Rochester, the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate, where he's hit .200 (11 for 55) with one home run and seven RBIs.
