The Detroit Lions will wear their new rivalry uniforms for their Nov. 1 home game against the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Tuesday, Aug. 11.
Outgoing Lions president Rod Wood said this offseason the team had to wear the new uniform for one of its home games against a division opponent and wanted to wait until the schedule came out to decide which game.
The Lions host the Green Bay Packers and Vikings in consecutive weeks Oct. 25 and Nov. 1 – the Packers game is a 4:25 p.m. nationally televised affair – and play the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving, Nov. 26.
"They’re very cool," Wood said of the uniforms at the time. "Different but within kind of the realm of our current uniform pallet. ... I think the fans are going to like it and it’s different but kind of a cool factor."
The Lions are expected to unveil the new rivalry uniforms in the coming weeks.
The NFL unveiled rivalry uniforms last year with teams from the AFC East and NFC West wearing the jerseys. This year, teams from the NFC North and the AFC South will wear rivalry uniforms.
