This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke with retired All-Pro NFL defensive back and Kansas City Chiefs legend Deron Cherry.

In his interview with Easton Jr., Cherry discussed his role as an NFL Alumni ambassador for the 'GEAR UP Against Cancer'campaign's fight against lung cancer, in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. He also reflected on a significant memory from playing at Arrowhead Stadium.

"You've got 80, 90% of people who are smoking, that are dying from this terrible disease, and you either don't smoke, don't start smoking, or if you're smoking, make sure you go get checked out," said Cherry, "So the awareness is a big key, especially in the African American community, because a lot of times African Americans are the last ones who want to go see a doctor and want to go get checked out."

Cherry played 11 seasons with the Chiefs and was a five-time All-Pro. He spoke fondly of his games at Arrowhead Stadium, especially one game in particular.

"When we played the Buffalo Bills on a Monday night game, and to me, that's when Arrowhead got its heartbeat, got its life, and there was nothing, no experience like that," said Cherry, "It was the loudest I had ever heard that stadium, and the atmosphere was the most incredible I had ever been in my entire football career. That was something that, from that point on, Arrowhead was a special place."

The 33-6 Monday Night football victory on October 7th, 1991, over the Buffalo Bills holds a special place in Cherry's and many other players' memories. He dived deeper into the experience at Arrowhead, including the famous pregame tailgate.

"I mean, it started with this tailgating before the game, the smoke, everybody talks about that. I had family members come in and watch the game. They went, golly, there was so much smoke outside the stadium from people barbecuing and enjoying themselves," said Cherry, "It just became an atmosphere that was like second to none that you couldn't replicate anywhere else in the National Football League. I don't think you'll ever be able to replicate the atmosphere that was at Arrowhead throughout our careers."
