LeBron James’ free agency is one of the biggest stories this offseason, following his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers, and it seems that the Purple and Gold fans are more than happy to see him leave after an eight-year stint.
During an appearance on Yahoo Sports Daily, former NBA guard Derek Fisher shared his thoughts on why hardcore Lakers fans never fully accepted James, unlike some of the club’s legends, including the late Kobe Bryant.
“A lot of people have celebrated it. It’s almost been like a parade, like it’s the greatest thing ever. I’m not saying it’s doomsday for the Lakers. I think the organization will be fine. It’s been around for 80 years. But I’m definitely surprised by some of the reaction. Yeah, I think a lot of fans have moved on,” Fisher stated.
“I think part of it is that when you look at the Lakers’ all-time greats, many of them were essentially born and raised as Lakers… Then, of course, there’s Kobe spending 20 seasons in Los Angeles. I think those stars became who they were as Lakers. I think a lot of Lakers fans have a difficult time receiving the fact that LeBron was already LeBron before he got here,” he continued.

LeBron James has been linked to various NBA teams this free agency, including the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers, and all of them could make a strong case for the 41-year-old forward.
According to reports, James doesn’t plan to meet any of his suitors since he’s enjoying his free time with family and friends. His agent, Rich Paul, has been listening to pitches via voice notes from several front offices, and he has reiterated that money will not be the determining factor for his client.
“Sources told ESPN that James is still in the process of absorbing the pertinent information of every suitor, with one source saying there is “no timetable” for the 41-year-old veteran to make his decision,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin reported. “James has spent the past few weeks with family and friends enjoying vacation and time on the golf course, in no rush to decide.”
