The New Orleans Saints will officially have a new starting quarterback during the upcoming 2025 NFL season. On Saturday, veteran signal caller Derek Carr announced that he was retiring from the NFL following a shoulder injury.

With Carr not returning, the Saints have two potential quarterback options on the roster. They could go out and bring in another player, but for now the competition appears to be between Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough.

Rattler, who was the No. 150 overall pick in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft, played a decent amount in 2024. He completed 57% of his passes for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions in seven games, while also running for 146 yards.

Shough was just taken in the second round of the 2025 draft at No. 40 overall. In his final college season at Louisville, he competed 62.7% of his passing attempts for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

As shared by Pro Football Talk, first-year head coach Kellen Moore has declared the competition to be open between Rattler, Shough, and Jake Haener.

A fourth fan wrote, "One of them will rise to the be a starter..Saints will end up with the #1 overall draft pick and get a QB."

"Saints preparing to draft Arch Manning #1 overall next year. Bet saints under win total," a fifth fan chimed in.

Carr's career coming to an end so abruptly is a sad way to see him go out. He finished his NFL career completing 65.1% of his passes for 41,245 yards, 257 touchdowns, and 112 interceptions.
