Denny Hamlin is catching Tyler Reddick. With the regular season progressing, Hamlin has trimmed Reddick's lead to eight points during the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series campaign. This comes after the Joe Gibbs Racing driver won three straight races before the weekend in San Diego.

During that stretch, Reddick wrecked at Michigan International Speedway and suffered a flat tire in second place with a few laps to go in San Diego. Now, the 23XI Racing driver, who seemed to be controlling the point standings, is facing a major challenge from his team owner.

Reddick still has the speed to hold off Hamlin entering Sonoma Raceway, but there is no room for error. The driver of the No. 11 car has been on another level, and Reddick hasn't won in over one month. Hamlin is coming, and Reddick should be concerned that he will take over the points lead sooner rather than later.
