Last season, Cowboys fans watched from afar as DeMarcus Lawrence hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in his first season away from the team where he spent 11 years.
This season, they'll watch the 34-year-old line up across from his former Dallas teammates for the first time.
Lawrence, a five-time Pro Bowler and the Cowboys' 10th-highest all-time sack leader, has decided to return to Seattle for a 13th NFL season, despite a previous plan to walk away after helping the Seahawks win Super Bowl LX.
“I kind of had my mind made up that if I won, I was done,” Lawrence said per ESPN's Brady Henderson. “But I kind of had a bittersweet feeling in my heart, understanding that with the type of team that we had, we should have been where we were last year. This is where the hard part begins, staying on top.”
Now that effort to stay on top will include a rematch against his former Cowboys crew. Dallas and Seattle will meet in Week 13 for a Monday night showdown at Lumen Field in what both sides hope will be a December clash of NFC contenders.
“They say it’s no fun when the rabbit has the gun,” Lawrence said. “We’re the ones with the dot on our backs. I just want to see how that feels, see the different obstacles that we can overcome. Are we going to stay together in those tough moments throughout a season? And just be a part of this brotherhood.”
Lawrence was a second-round pick by the Cowboys in 2014 and earned four Pro Bowl trips as a mainstay of the Dallas defense over the decade that followed. He briefly contemplated retirement after his Cowboys run ended in early 2025 but signed with Seattle instead and quickly caused a stir with some of his first comments upon arriving in the Pacific Northwest. Speaking with a reporter there in March, the always outspoken Lawrence teased, "Dallas is my home ... but I know for sure I'm not going to win a Super Bowl there."
Eleven months later, he was indeed standing under a confetti shower.
Now he wants a chance at another one, but this time, getting there will include a run-in with his former Cowboys teammates... who are planning to be on a Super Bowl quest of their own.
