The Golden State Warriors have consistently been in the mix for high-profile free agents, linked to potential blockbuster trades, and have shown interest in building their core around Steph Curry. However, the latest free-agency pursuit of Curry's friend and future Hall-of-Famer LeBron James is just another missed shot by the Warriors front office.
Now, the Warriors enter another NBA season with Curry asked to do the heavy lifting, at the very least, until Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody are fully healthy. But as fans of his game have come to know and respect, there'll never be a complaint from the superstar guard. Regardless, following the swing and miss on LeBron in free agency and the team's lack of offseason moves, speculation has ignited about Curry's future in Golden State.
Part of this comes from a report by The San Francisco Standard's Tim Kawakami, which, admittedly, was aggregated to the point that information was left out. Kawakami noted that the Warriors will likely again pursue a big name when the opportunity presents itself, while adding that the franchise is trying to think of a "post-Curry future." To be clear, this doesn't mean the Warriors are simply focusing on life after Curry; they're trying to find a balance.

Even still, the internet ran with the Warriors trying to plan for a post-Curry future, and without that tidbit, everyone is still wondering the same thing: Will he have a real shot at contending for a title over the final years of his career?
With the team's current outlook, the answer is probably no, and most are fully aware of that. So, rightfully, fans of Curry's game (which there is no shortage of) want to see the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player have a real shot at winning another title, leading to trade demands flying on social media.
Bill Simmons asked on his podcast why the Warriors are "so desperate just to waste the end of the Steph era?" Simmons also floated the San Antonio Spurs offering De'Aaron Fox and several picks for Curry in a hypothetical situation. Longtime Yahoo Sports NBA reporter Kevin O'Connor called it a "shame" and said the team should trade him if the focus does shift to the future.
Fans have started looking back at old clips of Curry, specifically those featuring him speaking to Giannis Antetokounmpo, and hoping for a future where he lands with the Miami Heat (this would happen if Curry doesn't sign a contract extension after next season). There are also various Boston Celtics fan accounts already hoping to see Curry team up with Jayson Tatum to go toe-to-toe with the 76ers' new-look roster.
CBS reporter Sam Quinn admitted that "in pure basketball terms, it's better for everyone if [Curry] asks for a trade," citing Golden State's championship window being closed.
Truthfully, after the Warriors' stagnant offseason, you'd be hard-pressed to find fans who aren't clamoring over the idea of finding a way to acquire Curry. The bad news for Warriors fans is that this isn't going to cool off at all until Curry either signs a contract extension or the front office manages to strike a deal to get Curry significant help. Depending on how the start of the 2026-27 season goes, Curry could ultimately be one of the biggest names to be mentioned in rumors ahead of the trade deadline, unless he or the Warriors opt to openly shut down any chance of that happening.
