The Brendan Sorsby saga has elicited opinions from all corners of the college football world. Recently, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders weighed in on the situation and spoke to how uncomfortable it is for the sport.
“Somebody’s gambling on a sport they’re playing? You don’t think something’s wrong with that?” Sanders told the Associated Press before the most recent ruling in the Sorsby case. “Just say that to yourself: This guy on my team is gambling on the sport, in the competition, that we’re about to go out there and have. Something’s wrong with that.”
Sanders believes that the product on the field is largely the same, but the situation away from it has changed dramatically, and that has changed the way people behave.
“The game is still the game,” Sanders said. “The game is just positioned differently. Money’s involved, and any time money’s involved people tend to migrate to what they think they can get out of it, instead of what they could put into it — and that’s unfortunate.”
Colorado will host Texas Tech on October 3 in a game that Sorsby is currently eligible for.
