Before high school even started, Lyndi Wolf wanted to do what only a few girls had done at Fremont Ross.

Instead, she did something no girl had ever done for the Little Giants. Wolf earns her 13th varsity letter with the track team this spring.

"I always had the goal to earn 12 varsity letters," she said. "There wasn't a 'reason.' It was just a goal and I like to set goals for myself. It feels great to have accomplished it."

High school softball The right people have been there at perfect times in the life of Gibsonburg's Reese

After playing varsity basketball as a freshman, Wolf was already looking ahead.

"I became aware that it could be possible to earn 12 letters, if I played a spring sport," she said. "I could be one of very few female athletes in Ross history to accomplish this goal. I have worked extremely hard both on and off the court to not only excel in the classroom but also as an athlete."

Wolf's vertical superpower translated to a new bar.

"The fall and winter sports were pretty much set in stone with volleyball and basketball, but I didn’t know what the spring sport was going to be," she said. "Makenna Englund (from my basketball team freshman year) convinced me to high jump and there was my third sport."

Now recognizing a clear path to 12 letters, she still wanted more. She gave it a go at golf as a senior, registered her first eagle at tryouts and advanced to district her only season.

Wolf has four letters in volleyball, basketball and track, along with one for golf.

"If it wasn’t for my volleyball coach Erin Dircksen and golf coach Nicole Kulasa, none of this would have been possible," she said. "They allowed me to complete a goal of mine that could help me make history at Fremont Ross."

She fulfilled two more goals as the only girl to collect 1,000 career kills in program history and she continues her volleyball career at Akron. The Little Giants advanced to a regional final for the first time in October.

"Beating Oregon Clay in the district final was amazing," Wolf said. "Then going a game further and beating Dublin Scioto to make it to the regional final just was like icing on a cake."

Wolf was first-team as Ross took league crowns in the Northern Lakes League Cardinal Division for basketball her last two seasons. She helped basketball make school history as well.

"My sophomore year beating Anthony Wayne in the district final for the first time in program history, then the next year beating Perrysburg to go back to back district champions," she said.

Wolf qualified to regional in the high jump her first three seasons, including district championships the last two seasons.

"My goal this year is to make it to state," she said. "I have fallen short in the past and it would be awesome for that to be the last thing I do before I graduate. Going to state is the only goal that I haven’t accomplished yet."

Time management is a challenge for any student athlete. Wolf balanced three sports each school year with her studies and found a way to go out adding a fourth.

"I learned in middle school the importance of managing my school work and sports," she said. "This will help me when I am at the University of Akron playing volleyball. It taught me to work hard for what I want."

Thirteen letters seems a fitting destination for Wolf, who grew up in a Ross gym. Great aunt Sue Wolf and father Nick Wolf were Little Giants coaches when Wolf was young.

Wolf cherishes playing in the 'old pit' to start her career on the same floor Nick played on.

"As a little girl I went to a lot of Fremont Ross sporting events," she said. "This gave me a sense of Little Giant pride at a very young age."
