Former Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall expressed strong optimism about Odell Beckham Jr.'s potential contributions to the New York Giants during a recent interview with Hard Rock Bet.
Hall, who faced Beckham early in the wide receiver's career, highlighted OBJ's enduring athleticism and leadership after observing him in organized team activities (OTAs) and flag football events.
"I saw Odell run up and down and get in and out of his breaks. To me, it looks like he still has it," Hall said. "From what I saw during OTAs, he still looks good. We saw him play in the NFL flag football games, and I thought he was still moving really well."
Hall noted Beckham's ability to influence team culture and provide veteran guidance to young talents like Malik Nabers, emphasizing that Beckham's experience as a former superstar could help develop the Giants' young receivers, teaching them route-running nuances and the confidence needed to win one-on-one matchups.
"He can have a huge impact. Experience is so valuable, and you’re talking about someone who was one of the best players at his position. Someone who became one of the biggest stars in the league after making one of the best plays of all time," Hall said.
"People can say what they want about OBJ, the celebrity. But the football player, that’s definitely a guy I want to put around my young receivers. He’ll help them develop their route running and be able to teach them how to get open in the NFL."
Hall recalled covering the dynamic Beckham as a veteran, an experience that signaled it was time for his own retirement.
"I had to cover OBJ as a young guy. When I went up against him, that’s when I knew it was time for me to retire. That dude just moved differently," Hall said. "The confidence he plays with is infectious. When you have a guy who feels like he can win every one-on-one, it rubs off on every player in that locker room. I think the Giants needed someone with that type of bravado, too."
Hall believes Beckham's swagger and elite hands remain valuable assets, enhancing the Giants' offense under head coach John Harbaugh.
"I like where the Giants are. They’re young. They hired a great head coach in John Harbaugh and got some good pieces in the offseason," he said. "If Nabers gets healthy, that could be some duo with Beckham Jr."
With the team building around young pieces, Hall views the Beckham-Nabers pairing as potentially dynamic and is rooting for OBJ's success in his return to New York.
