I would say that this is the best lineup 1-8 we have used this season, except for Didi covering for the injured Owings and the injured Pollock not leading off in CF (if he were, I would call for Parra to caddy for Trumbo).

Let's see what Fatty Cahill can do with a decent lineup behind him.

If his walk rate is the same as it was since he was demoted to the Minors, it is not going to be good.

And we are facing a team whose winning (actually, losing) percentage is only 9/1000 better than ours.

The dreaded walk, followed by a home run, then a double in the 4th.

Here we go again.

Cahill sat down for a pinch hitter with only 67 pitches thrown.

Cahill gave up 3 runs in his 5 innings. That equates to an ERA of 5.40, consistent with his season's ERA of 5.63. As a starter, his ERA is 9.17.

Here is how his ERA stacks up against all of the other D-backs pitchers who have started games this season.

PITCHER.......STARTS....ERA

Nuno................2........3.00
Anderson.........10........3.64
Collmenter.......16........3.80
Arroyo.............14........4.08
Miley...............20........4.18
Spruill...............1........4.82
McCarthy..........18........5.01
Delgado.............2........5.19
Bolsinger...........9........5.50
Cahill................5........5.63
Cahill as starter...........9.17

Either way you look at it, he is dead last.

"That's the fact, Jack."

You'd like to see 6+ innings from a starter to cut down the innings worked by the bullpen. But getting five inning out of Cahill and still being in the game falls into the I'll take that category.

Although I don't agree with taking it now, I hope (by next season) we can come up with a better 5-man starting rotation. I will be very disappointed if Cahill's walks and ERA can't be replaced. His performance is less than mediocre.

Daniel Hudson is expected to join the bullpen later in the year. Pencil him into the 2015 rotation.

After being shutdown with a sore elbow, Archie Bradley is back pitching. He really should have got the call up to replace Bolsinger, but the D'backs promised Cahill a return to the majors when he agreed to assignment.

And Zeke Spruill will be given a shot in spring training.

There should be some new faces in the rotation next year.

I would love to see the stats regarding batters facing full counts... I swear with Goldy, it is more the rule than the exception!!

I am also very happy that KT never made a move to grab Olt... He's going nowhere and us actually a worse player than Prado...

What a game for Goldy! 3 for 3 with 2 walks, 3 runs scored, 3 RBI and his 18th dinger that was a BOMB! Awesome!

With Trumbo hitting cleanup behind him.

Coincidence?!? ;)

It took Gibson only 2/3 of the season.

Goldy rakes no matter who is in the 4 hole...
Of course, having even the slightest threat (Trumbo) is like tossing has on a fire! If only Trumbo can turn into a legit threat...
Miggy also had a great game and could Hill be snapping out of his funk?

Hudson will not be a starter anymore. The Diamondbacks plan to use him in the bullpen next year. They say Towers main concern is finding starters for next year. Too bad he traded away Bauer and Skaggs and got not a lot back. Maybe they can trade Trumbo and get something for him but I have no faith in the front office.

Yes, its a coincidence. No one is scared of Trumbo, he is horrid. Goldy is just a monster hitter. The two walks is plenty of evidence that the Cubs were fine with pitching to Trumbo.

And Goldy's three hits were not.

Recently returning to the lineup, Trumbo hit three wicked line drives yesterday, but all three were outs. Then he hit a dribbler which drove in a run, if I remember correctly. As announcers always say, the line drives are a good sign.

You and I have a difference of opinion about this. Of course, Gibby moved Trumbo to cleanup only because a lefty was starting for the Cubs.

With our bland lineup, do you really believe that separating our only two power hitters, rather than hitting them back-to-back, is a good idea?

"Batting sixth for the Yankees, number 4, Lou Gehrig." 'Sorry, I don't buy it! Ruth and Gehrig wore numbers 3 and 4 because, in those days, numbers were assigned by where they hit in the order.

Trumbo is no Gehrig (obviously), but he's the only other power hitter we have.

Thank goodness for David Peralta. The D-backs scored 3 runs to win by a run. Peralta drove in 2 and scored the 3rd.

Speaking of RBI's, Gerardo Parra leads the D-backs in official AB's, but has a total of 28 RBI's. That is pathetic for a corner outfielder.
