We are so very close to the NBA Draft, and like a man dying of dehydration after weeks of wandering through the desert, I simply cannot wait for the narrative to stop flipping every other day.

The smallest morsel of breaking news puts the Washington Wizards in a wildly different position than they stood the day before, and by extension, the Utah Jazz are left to struggle for answers as they draft off the frontrunner's wind resistance, hoping to claim whichever star falls to them at the number two spot.

That's the order of operations, but the variables are swinging like a metronome.

First it was Peterson, then it was Dybantsa, then Peterson again a few days ago, then it stabilized back to Dybantsa, and now -- wouldn't you know it -- we're right back to the Kansas standout thanks to Jeremy Woo's latest mock draft at ESPN.

He laid out the situation in very clear terms, noting that while Peterson's value has been in questions thanks to a perplexing freshman season under Bill Self, the league-wide belief is that Peterson's off-court oddities shouldn't gather too much scrutiny from prospective NBA hosts, Washington and Utah.

"Ultimately, one of the hardest pieces of player evaluation is being able to laser in on a player's talent and try to separate it from negative context. The more I've learned from various league sources about Peterson -- most importantly, hearing about NBA teams' current comfort level with his medicals -- the more comfortable I feel viewing his season as a one-off. I'm focusing on his special traits that point to stardom and are worth whatever the perceived risk might be."

"This decision is less about Dybantsa's own talents. And with much lesser stakes, it mirrors the choice the Washington Wizards are mulling over in the coming days."

Though Peterson is a much more natural fit with the Utah Jazz's current makeup, there won't be much lamenting if BYU star AJ Dybantsa slips to the Jazz with the second overall pick. In fact, for every apparent movement in the NBA Draft order, there has appeared to be an equal, opposite reaction from the fanbase of the Utah Jazz.

Think Darryn Peterson is the number-one pick? We'll gladly come away with the player everyone expected to go first from the beginning.

AJ is the guy at the top spot? Great, because Darryn Peterson is actually the best prospect in the class.

It's a hilarious time to follow the direction of the NBA discourse, but all this will finally be put to rest when Adam Silver announces the number-one selection on June 23.
