Darnell Nurse trade news helps Oilers, involves Sharks originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The staring contest that Darnell Nurse was in with the Edmonton Oilers apparently had someone blink.

The reports indicated Nurse, in his trade request, had picked out three East Coast teams as the only places he'd waive his no-trade clause for.

Now, though, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Apparently, he'd go play for the San Jose Sharks, too.

This is what NHL insider Elliotte Friedman wrote on X on Wednesday:

"There is word this afternoon Darnell Nurse has agreed to expand his list of teams he will accept a trade to. San Jose is one to watch. We will see where it goes."

This suggests that at least one part of the Nurse-Oilers showdown wasn't happy with what was happening.

Most likely, Edmonton wasn't getting the offers it wanted and told Nurse that if he wanted to move, he'd have to expand his options.

There's also a chance Nurse simply contemplated his future more and came up with another spot or two he'd like to land.

The Sharks are certainly a team on the rise, led by young superstar Macklin Celebrini. Nurse would provide a solid veteran presence there.

San Jose also has cap space to welcome someone like Nurse, who is a good player but probably overpaid.

A deal isn't done, but a report like this suggests something could be moving toward the Sharks.

And yes, there is a kind of shark called a "nurse shark," for those who were wondering.
