Some takes don't need analysis. They need correction. Now, there are times when wild statements can be ignored, but when a former Kansas City Chiefs defender, Charles Omenihu, in this case, claimed the 2023 San Francisco 49ers were better than the 2024 Philadelphia Eagles, some might say that's worthy of well as Vic Fangio's defense would say, 'putting belt to rear end'. It didn't take long for that message to reach Darius Slay, and in typical Darius Slay fashion, it didn't take long for the man affectionately known as 'Big Play' to offer a big response. First, let's revisit what Omenihu said. They say we're all entitled to our opinions, but stating the 2023 49ers were better than the 2024 Eagles borders on ridiculous.
The Chiefs needed overtime to narrowly outlast the 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Philadelphia smacked Kansas City one year later in Super Bowl LIX, and in April of 2026, Slay took his opportunity to give Charles Omenihu a verbal spanking.
That wasn't just a response. That was a reminder. The 2024 Eagles didn't just win a Super Bowl. They ran through the postseason. They didn't survive the games. They controlled them, minus that Divisional Round war in the snow versus the Los Angeles Rams, of course, but when they met Kansas City on the biggest stage, the game wasn't competitive for long.
That's what makes Omenihu's claim land the way it did. Slay didn't break down film. He didn't cite stats. He didn't need to. His response hit the way it did because it came from a place of certainty, the kind built from being in the middle of it. There was also some familiarity. For anyone who appreciates hip-hop, the tone carried echoes of Nas's legendary "Ether" response. It was direct, unapologetic, and designed to end the conversation rather than continue it. No overthinking. No second-guessing.
It was just truth, delivered with edge. That's what Slay has always brought to the table.
Confidence isn't something you manufacture after the fact. It's something you carry with you, especially after a run like Philadelphia's. When that résumé is questioned, don't expect a quiet reaction. Slay gave the kind of answer that matches the moment. Short. Loud. Memorable, and just like that, the debate didn't feel like much of a debate anymore.
