DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Vikings will send several athletes to the Class 2A State Track and Field finals, with four appearances by junior Samantha Brown.
Brown qualified for state in the pole vault, triple jump, 4×100-meter relay, and 4×200-meter relay, a sectional champion in all but the triple jump to help Danville finish second in the sectional.
Last year, Brown qualified for state in both relays and the pole vault, her highest finish an eighth-place performance in the 4×100-meter relay. When asked how she balances four different events, she said she has never known any different.
“You just kind of go where you’re told,” said Brown. “I go where my coaches tell me and do what they say. And it all turns out. Support from your coaches and support from your teammates, I mean, we are such a family and I think that really shows we’re just constantly supporting each other. And I think that really is what takes us as far as we go.”
WCIA is bringing viewers extended high school track and field coverage, featuring one local runner, jumper, or thrower daily leading up to the girls’ and boys’ IHSA state meets. See below for more recent stories:
