Max Holloway was dominated at UFC 326, but one thing stood out for Daniel Cormier.

Holloway (27-9 MMA, 23-9 UFC) lost his BMF title to Charles Oliveira (37-11 MMA, 25-11 UFC) in Saturday's main event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where he was taken down five times and controlled on the mat for more than 20 minutes.

Holloway could not get Oliveira off of him but managed to avoid any submission from the UFC's all-time leader – and that impressed Cormier.

"For Max Holloway, there wasn't much good in this fight because he never got to fight," Cormier said on his YouTube channel. "But what was very impressive was his submission defense. I don't know that we've ever seen a guy on the bottom vs. Oliveira for as long as he spent on the bottom and not get submitted.

"If there is something that the Holloway team should look at as a positive, it's that he fought off his back for 23 minutes, and Oliveira never got that close to submitting him. That was super impressive, but Holloway will be back. The guy is a champion, he's an amazing fighter, and he will build himself back into contention."

Holloway was not left deterred after the loss, vowing to re-enter title contention. Prior to the Oliveira loss, the 34-year-old had won four of his past five fights, including a knockout of current interim champion Justin Gaethje.
