Dana White didn't know Jon Jones was waiting for a fight offer.
"As long as I'm in the drug testing pool, the UFC are contractually obligated to offer me a few fights a year," Jones told Ring Magazine. "I haven't heard anything from them in a while. You know, I just take it as it comes. I take it one day at a time. ... When I get offered to fight, that's going to be great."
White was caught off guard when asked about these comments because, as far as he knows, Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) retired last year, dropping the heavyweight title and subsequently causing Tom Aspinall to be elevated from interim to undisputed champion.
Speaking on "Spinnin Backfist MMA Show," Robbie Fox questioned White about Jones' statements.
"What's your take on that?" Fox asked. "Because I was under the impression he was retired."
"I was under the same impression," White responded. "... We're always making offers. I didn't see that quote, no. We have almost 800 guys under contract, and they all have to be offered three fights a year."
With Jones still in the UFC's anti-doping testing pool, he remains subject to the contractual requirement to be offered fights. "Bones" has been tested three times so far in 2026, according to the UFC's testing history, but as far as fight offers go, he says nothing has come his way yet. Jones last fought at UFC 309, when he stopped Stipe Miocic to record his first and only heavyweight title defense.
White knows all too well how dealing with Jones can go when it comes time to get a fight made, so he took the news of Jones wanting an offer in stride.
"Don't even get me started," White said.
