The Los Angeles Rams made one of the biggest moves of the NFL offseason when they acquired superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett.
Not surprisingly, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked for his thoughts on the blockbuster addition prior to Thursday’s OTA practice in Allen Park.
Campbell’s response was short, direct, and very much in line with his personality.
The Lions coach made it clear that he understands exactly why Los Angeles pursued one of the league’s most dominant defensive players.
Campbell also acknowledged Garrett’s immense talent.
Given Garrett’s high-profile acquisition, Campbell was also asked what it would take for Detroit to enter the market for a superstar player via trade.
The Lions have largely built their roster through the draft and targeted free-agent additions rather than blockbuster deals.
Campbell wasn’t interested in diving into hypotheticals.
While brief, the answer leaves the door open to the possibility that Detroit could pursue a major move if the right opportunity presents itself.
The Lions have been active this offseason, but their biggest investments have centered on developing the roster already in place.
General manager Brad Holmes and Campbell have repeatedly emphasized building through the draft and rewarding homegrown talent.
That philosophy has helped create one of the NFL’s most talented young cores, led by players such as Jared Goff, Aidan Hutchinson, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Brian Branch, and Kerby Joseph.
Still, Campbell’s comments show that Detroit certainly recognizes Garrett’s impact.
The Rams got their guy.
The Lions appear content with theirs.
