It's looking like the Denver Broncos won't play in an international game this season.

Speaking at the NFL's annual league meeting in Arizona earlier this week, team president Damani Leech said the club is "technically" a candidate to play the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico, but he hasn't heard anything about that happening.

“A lot of the home teams have certainly been announced for international games," Leech said. "The visiting teams, not so much, other than a few sites. We haven’t heard anything, but as you know, selfishly, personally, I love the international ambitions of the league. Greg [Penner] and Carrie [Walton Penner] support it. Sean [Payton] is a big fan of it. Anything we can do to support the overall league initiative, we’re on board.”

If the NFL planned to have the Broncos play the 49ers south of the border this fall, the league likely would have talked to the team about it by now. The fact that Leech hasn't heard from the NFL is a likely sign that Denver won't have an international game during the 2026 season.

It sounds like San Francisco wants to host the Los Angeles Rams in Mexico. Whoever the opponent ends up being, it sounds like it's unlikely to be the Broncos.
