The Dallas Police Department have responded to a video circulating on social media that appears to show an officer in an altercation with a member of the Egyptian staff.
Egypt beat Australia on penalties at the Dallas Stadium on Friday to book their spot in the World Cup round of 16.
A video that went viral on social media appears to show an officer in an altercation with someone affiliated with the Egyptian national team’s staff at a hotel when a player was attempting to take a photo with a young fan.
However, the Dallas Police Department have cleared up the matter.
Dallas Police Department say Egypt matter is now resolved
On Friday, an official statement from the Dallas Police Department posted on social media platform X read: “We are aware of the video circulating on social media regarding an officer and interaction with members from a soccer team.
“The Dallas Police Department responded to an area hotel at the request of hotel security regarding an individual without event credentials attempting to gain access. It was later learned that the individuals weren’t displaying credentials properly which is a requirement. The situation was resolved on scene, and DPD met with representatives of the team to address their concerns. The matter has since been resolved.”
The Egyptian National Team claimed that the officer had pushed forward Trezeguet, who plays for Al Ahly in Cairo, as well as team director Ibrahim Hassan.
Egypt’s media officer Mohamed Morad told Reuters: “A man and his son went to take a photo with Ibrahim Hassan and Trezeguet, and the national team’s director approved the request.
“However, a security officer intervened and pushed the fan, as well as Trezeguet and Ibrahim Hassan, even though the player and the team director were in their designated area. Ibrahim then asked the security officer to deal with the fan in a normal manner.”
Following a 1-1 draw at the Dallas Stadium (otherwise known as the AT&T Stadium), Egypt would beat Australia 4-2 on penalties to claim their first ever win in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Emam Ashour opened the scoring against the run of play before Mohamed Hany scored an own goal. That meant he was only the second player in World Cup history to score multiple own goals in the same tournament.

The Pharaohs, however, found a way to win on penalties to break new ground for the team in this competition.
That has teed up a mouth-watering meeting with world champions Argentina in the quarter-finals, pitting Mohamed Salah against Lionel Messi.
Argentina needed extra-time to beat tournament sensations Cape Verde in Miami, with Messi scoring once and assisting another in what was a dramatic 3-2 victory.
