The Mavericks added a local product on Tuesday via a trade that involved 20% of the league.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Dallas was part of a six-team trade on Tuesday night that ended with Dallas sending former winger Khris Middleton to the Wizards as part of a sign-and-trade, landing Santi Aldama from the Grizzlies and, finally, acquiring former Red Oak guard Marcus Sasser from the Pistons. Dallas also includes a 2033 second-round pick with Middleton to Washington, according to ESPN's report.
Sasser, 25, is entering his fourth season in the NBA and has spent the three previous in Detroit. He played in 71 games his rookie 2023-24 season, but played 57 the next year and just 38 games in 2025-26, averaging 12 minutes per game. He averaged 5.2 points and 2 assists per game last season.
Sasser played high school ball at Red Oak before spending four NCAA seasons at Houston. He broke out his senior season, named a first-team All-American before being drafted No. 25 overall in the 2023 NBA draft.
Sasser will likely contribute to the backup guard competition brewing for the Mavericks behind Kyrie Irving, with Ryan Nembhard and 2026 draftee Sergio De Larrea also competing for the role.
