FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys receiver George Pickens says that when he got the phone call from owner Jerry Jones revealing that a trade to bring him here from Pittsburgh, it all felt like a gift for all involved.

“Super excited,'' he said. "It was like when you get a present on Christmas. (Jerry) was just super-happy.''

Dak Prescott shared that view regarding a similar Pickens-related phone call he got from Jones.

And on the practice field here at The Star during OTAs on Tuesday?

It all came together for Dak and Pickens and CeeDee Lamb, too.

Said Lamb of his new "Goodfellas'' buddy: "He hasn't stopped smiling since he got here.''

Lamb knows his new teammate comes with a reputation that some think is a red flag, and he's putting up a defense of all of that. ... as is Pickens himself.

Calling himself a "chill guy" as Dallas began OTAs at The Star, Pickens has said and done all the right things since arriving, and he will be looking to make the most of his time with the Cowboys.

And Lamb's take on the "narrative" surrounding George?

“I knew who he was as a player just watching him at the Steelers and how passionate he is about the game,” Lamb said. “I think they kind of get it confused, you're so passionate about something, you're willing to do anything for it, right? So as far as winning goes, and I mean just being happy in an organization, not saying he wasn't, not saying that he was, but he hasn't stopped smiling since he got here, so I start with that.”

Change can be as inviting as Christmas, and in theory, a fresh start might do wonders for the gifted Pickens.

New coach Brian Schottenheimer is pushing the idea of culture as an emphasis, noting on Tuesday that his interactions with Pickens have been "incredible.'' And during the workout, the chemistry did indeed look in place, particularly on one play, a Dak deep ball to KaVontae Turpin that resulted in a touchdown.

Turpin sprinted down the sideline and was quickly joined by Pickens, who let out a series of celebratory "whoops!'' ... and seconds later, Lamb and Dak also joined the downfield party.

And yes, everybody was smiling.
