One position at which the Texas Tech football team is short on experience is safety. The Red Raiders appear to be getting a little older at that spot.
Pittsburg State safety Jordan Rogers, who'll be a sixth-year senior this coming season, has committed to Texas Tech, On3 Sports reported on Wednesday, June 24. Rogers, a former Texas all-state player at Waco La Vega, earned NCAA Division II all-America recognition last season after he racked up 85 tackles with 6 tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, 5 interceptions and 4 caused fumbles.

Perennially strong Pittsburg State finished 10-3 and 8-1 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The Gorillas lost to Harding in the second round of the Division II playoffs.
Rogers, listed by Pittsburg State as 5-foot-10 and 188 pounds, has shown ballhawk tendencies throughout his career, spent entirely at the Kansas school. In 2023, he had 11 pass breakups and 6 interceptions, and in 2024 he had 8 pass breakups and 4 interceptions. He also has 5 1/2 sacks over the past three seasons.
In the MIAA, he was third-team all-conference in 2023 and first-team all-conference each of the past two years. Rogers, who redshirted in 2021 and suffered a season-ending injury in the second game in 2022, recently received a waiver to restore a year of eligibility.
Texas Tech has a returning starter at safety in Brenden Jordan. Sophomores Peyton Morgan, Malik Esquerra and Oliver Miles, all former Texas state top-100 signees, have been competing to be a first-time starter at another safety spot.
Miles suffered a sprained ankle the first week of spring practice, giving Morgan and Esquerra more opportunity to assert themselves.
