After leaving the entire lineup on base each night last week, the D-backs bounced back, sweeping the Giants. In usual fashion, they relievers HAD to let the Giants back in the game a few times, but the D-backs survived and are back at .500. It's time to bundle up and keep the winning streak alive in Denver.

Right now, LA's magic number is 7. Schedules:
D-backs - 3 at Colorado, 4 at St.Louis, 3 vs. Colorado
Dodgers - 3 vs. San Francisco, 3 vs. San Diego, 3 at San Francisco
LA can certainly win seven of these games, so the D-backs can't afford to lose any games. The D-backs are in a tight spot.

This weekend's probables (lite version):

Friday - Scherzer vs. De La Rosa
The D-backs' ERA leader will face the Rockies for the first time ever while hunting for his first 2008 victory. DeLaRosa has had rough outings in his last two starts, but had a solid August ERA of 2.22, in other words, he is capable of giving the D-backs hitters fits.

Saturday - Davis vs. Cook
Both starters know what it's like to pitch well and not get rewarded in their win columns. Davis has had a decent September with a 2.45 ERA this month, but no decisions. He will have two more opportunities this year to even his record at 8-8. Cook has 16 wins, most coming on the road. In his last start, he threw eight scoreless innings at home against the Dodgers and did not register a win.

Sunday - Haren vs. Reynolds
Haren comes off arguably the best game of his career and has a successful track record against Colorado. Reynolds (not the Sheriff), comes off one of his worst games of his career. He has allowed seven runs in each of his last two starts.

The D-backs better outslug their divisional rivals in the rarified air. Root for the Giants the rest of the way, too.

Our only two runs came on solo homeruns. So, not one run was scored from a rally. Our RISP percent for this game is .000 again.

Baseball is an individual sport within a team concept. It seems the team concept part is lost on management.

Mark Reynolds HR was his first in 13 games. That's the problem with fly balls to center field. Most of them are not homeruns.

Baseball is supposed to be fun. It seems that, the few times we connect, there is not much joy in the faces of the guys circling the bases.

And I feel sorry for Chris Young. Trying so hard to murderize every pitch. Although his potential is not as great as Justin Upton, he still could be a very good five tool player if he was coached to build confidence.

Chris Young - 4 more men LOB...

Is it coaching?? Could be... Is it up to Young to improve as well? Of course it is...
Loads of athletic ability, but as I have said time and time again, he's the perfect trap player... He will continue to kill the D-backs...

I was hoping that when Young reached base in the 7th, that they would send him running on Corpas' first pitch, but no, they didn't and Jackson eventually lined into a double play. Another good pitching performance was wasted because this team can't score runs. The team has completely forgotten how to win a road game. Unfortunately, the next six games are road games and at this rate, they'll punch LA's ticket to the playoffs without LA even having to play a game. Disgusting.

Davis pitched well and had lousy defensive support. It equaled yet another no decision for DD. Drew continued to deliver at the plate (good thing he did not get ball four in that last at-bat!) and the road skid is done. Back to scoreboard watching...

Diamondbacks come out hitting, led by Chris Young. Chris was a double short of hitting for the cycle. Also, the Dodgers lost, so the Diamondbacks are 2.5 games out of first.

It's hard not to like and root for Young. He remains the perfect trap for this D-back team however...

According to ESPN, the D-Backs have a 7% chance of winning the division. Up from 1% a couple of days ago
