Humboldt served as the host for the Iowa State vs South Dakota State wrestling dual, honoring Kevin Dresser’s high school alma mater. Broadcasted on Iowa PBS, this dual had a very intimate feel with a packed gym as the No. 3 Cyclones took on the No. 15 Jackrabbits.

125: No. 13 Poulin ISU Vs No. 21 Roark SDSU

While many 125 matchups are known for speed, this one turned into a slow burn. With a first period takedown being the difference maker, Stevo Poulin held off some late attacks from Roark to win by 4-2 decision and improve to 7-5 for the season.

Evan Frost dominated from the gun, with a first period takedown that led to over two minutes of riding time. Racking up the points in the second and the third, Evan Frost improves to 12-1 with a 20-4 tech fall in 6:39

141: Pearson ISU Vs (23) Tagg SDSU

Julian Tagg applied the pressure throughout the entire match, and Pearson had very few chances through the first two periods. Tagg found an opportunity for a major, and stacked some late takedowns to win 14-3 and give the Jackrabbits their first win of the day

Jacob continues his dominance this season, taking a lead in the first and applying the pressure for points in the second and third. Needing just a few more seconds, Jacob will have to settle for a 17-4 major decision and moves to 10-3

157: Naaktgeboren ISU Vs No. 20 Swensen SDSU

The name of the game is dominance on top. In a rare sight, there were no escapes as both wrestlers stayed in advantage in the second and third periods. A first period takedown for Swensen was the difference maker at the halfway mark in the dual.

165: No. 7 Euton ISU Vs No. 26 Marcus Espinoza-Owens SDSU

This was a high energy bout from start to finish, with both wrestlers taking shots at each other. Three Euton takedowns was the difference maker, winning in an 11-4 decision over the first Espinoza-Owens brother of the day

174: No. 15) Gaitan ISU Vs No. 18 Moses Espinoza-Owens SDSU

In a reversal from the previous bout, this turned into a defensive slugfest. After getting a couple chances in the second, Gaitan secured the top 20 win with a takedown and successful ride out in the final 75 seconds.

18-7 Cyclones after 7

184: No. 12 Dean ISU Vs Fettig SDSU

This match had high drama, with both teams throwing the brick. SDSU was successful in the first period whereas Iowa State’s challenge failed as the crowd voices their disagreements with the officials. In extra time, Issac Dean found the takedown to avoid the upset and secure the duel win for the Cyclones.

197: No. 2 Elam ISU Vs No. 6 Berge SDSU

The headlining match of the day, Rocky Elam held firm to his title as the number 2 wrestler in the nation. It was not a flashy win, but Elam used his strength and long reach to establish control and secure a 5-2 decision.

24-7 Cyclones after 9

285: No. 1 Bastida ISU Vs No. 24 Rasmussen SDSU

After allowing just his second takedown of the year, a fire was lit inside the top ranked heavyweight. Bastida quickly moved on the attack, raking in four takedowns in the first. While not as fast as his collegiate best performance on Friday, Bastida found the 25-9 tech fall after 6:33.
