The Chicago Cubs don't have many issues on their current roster. Whether the front office should take this hot start and look at it as something that can continue throughout the rest of the campaign remains to be seen.

However, the Cubs are in a good position, as they just finished the most challenging schedule in baseball and will have the easiest moving forward.

Despite the good baseball the Cubs have played, sitting at 17-12, a game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds in the NL Central, there's much more that has to be done over the next few months if this team wants to be World Series contenders.

They allowed Matt Shaw to play at the big league level to start the season, but after a brutal showing, hitting .172 with just one home run in 58 at-bats, the Cubs demoted him to Triple-A.

Doing so as early as they did was a bit questionable, but it was the right decision.

Shaw wasn't playing at the level they needed him to, which is why it's surprising that Andrew Wright of Newsweek believes the team should bring him back to the big league squad, adding that they should let him work through his struggles.

“The first would be to bring Shaw back up to the major leagues and let him work out his issues," he wrote. "Yes, the struggles at the plate would be tough to look past, but his defense would be levels above anyone else currently playing the position.”

Working through his struggles might not be the worst idea.

However, the Cubs will likely have to make a trade for a third baseman. If Shaw turns things around, he may get another chance. If he doesn’t, it could further erode his confidence.

The hope is for him to go down to Triple-A and figure out his offensive approach. Perhaps the Cubs think about bringing him back if or when that happens.
