Cubs trade proposal wouldn’t land a star, but it would help Jed Hoyer fix his injury issue originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

It's only a matter of time before the Chicago Cubs do what's needed to make a trade for another arm or two. It's very obvious that for the Cubs to be the team they're looking to be, they'll need pitchers in the later months of the campaign.

With the injuries only piling up, hopefully, Jed Hoyer will do what's needed sooner rather than later.

In a recent trade proposal, he'd accomplish just that in a deal with the Washington Nationals. The trade wouldn't blow anybody out of the water, but it would be a nice way to get back on track.

Cubs Get: Zack Littell

Nationals Get: Jefferson Rojas, Brandon Birdsell

“The Cubs have lost Cade Horton for a very long time due to injury. They will get back Matthew Boyd this week, yet their rotation falls off a cliff. They currently are fielding: Jameson Taillon, Javier Assad, and Colin Rea. While Littell is not much better, he provides depth with sub-4.00 ERA upside. Depth goes a very long way in a 162-game contending season,” Thomas Carelli of SI wrote.

There’s a reason why Littell has been around for so long in Major League Baseball, and he continues to find jobs.

That's because he knows how to get outs at a somewhat decent level, posting a 3.98 career ERA over 621.2 innings. He wouldn't save everything the Cubs need right now, but it would at least be a step in the right direction.
