The Cubs announced after Sunday's game that Jameson Taillon would be activated from the injured list to start Monday's game, and they have done that.

The team also added Aaron Civale to the active roster. He had been acquired by trade over the weekend.

To make room on the active roster for Taillon, the Cubs designated left-hander Drew Pomeranz for assignment and placed right-hander Phil Maton on the 15-day IL with the same knee issue that's bothered him much of the season.

Pomeranz began this year with the Angels, threw well for a while, then had some poor outings and was released. The Cubs signed him June 22 and he made two appearances at Triple-A Iowa before returning to the Cubs. Pomeranz had a good year in Chicago in 2025 but in six appearances this year he posted a 7.94 ERA in six games covering 5.2 innings, with four walks and only one strikeout. It was a reasonable chance to take; it just didn't work out.

Maton appeared in Sunday's game and had a rough inning. Clearly he's not 100 percent.

As always, we await further developments. Today's game preview will post at 5 p.m. CT.
