Edward Cabrera left the game May 20 against the Brewers with a blister, after throwing three innings and allowing four runs (one earned).

Here’s how that happened .was recalled from Iowa on Tuesday when the Cubs sent Jordan Wicks down, but did not get into a game against his former team.

Cabrera’s year so far has been decent enough: 10 starts, 4.00 ERA, 1.352 WHIP, 47 strikeouts in 54 innings. He’s had blister issues in the past, so let’s hope this is behind him. The Cubs could certainly use a starting rotation boost.

Cabrera missed two starts while on the injured list. Today, the Cubs have activated him to make the start against the Giants this afternoon at Wrigley Field.

To make room for Cabrera on the 26-man active roster, the Cubs optioned right-handed reliever Tyler Ferguson to Triple-A Iowa. Ferguson, who the Cubs acquired from the A’s May 7, was recalled from Iowa on Tuesday when the Cubs sent Jordan Wicks down, but did not get into a game against his former team.
