GATES, N.Y. (WROC) – It was a dominant outing on the mound for senior Jessie Crye on Friday night, tossing 16 strikeouts to lift Avon to the Class B2 title.
The River Hawks defeated Wellsville 2-1.
With a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning, Avon’s Avery Boor crushed a solo home run over the left field fence to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the bottom of the inning, Wellsville’s Brynn Hallock responded with an RBI double to close the gap to 2-1.
Wellsville had one final chance in the bottom of the seventh, but Crye struck out all three batters faced to secure the title.
Avon (13-5) will face Waterloo in the Class B regional qualifier. Wellsville ends its season 16-3.
