Crowder bats explode for 33 runs in twin bill

The Crowder College softball team exploded for a combined 33 runs in 11-2 and 22-5 wins over Missouri State-West Plains in a doubleheader Thursday at Keller Park in Mountain Home, Arkansas.

The pair of wins extended Crowder's winning streak to 11 games.

Game 1

Crowder (38-8, 20-2) broke out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning of Game 1 and added another score in the top of the fourth.

The Roughriders scored seven runs in the top of the fifth to take an 11-0 lead. Crowder gave up two runs in the bottom of the frame, but the defense held as the Roughriders went on for the 11-2 run-rule win.

Three Crowder batters recorded multiple hits. Riley Kaler was 2 for 3 with three runs, Alaura Padgett finished 2 for 3 with a run, and Jasmine Myers went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Kirsten Kay was 1 for 2 with two runs and two RBIs. Miya Curry and Kaler both stole two bases.

Starter Aubree Saporito gave up two runs on three hits while striking out four and walking two in five innings.

Game 2

Myers logged three home runs for the Roughriders in Game 2. She cleared the fences in the first, second and fourth innings and finished 4 for 5 with six RBIs and five runs.

Hitting back-to-back with Myers, Brooke Beyer added a pair of homers and finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs, three runs and 10 total bases.

Crowder jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth and added four more runs in the top of the second. The Roughriders gave up a run in the bottom of the second but exploded for nine runs in the top of the fourth to take a 17-1 lead.

West Plains (7-39) managed a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Crowder responded with a five-run frame in the top of the fifth and extended its lead to 22-2.

The Grizzlies put across three runs in the bottom of the fifth but suffered the 22-5 loss in the run-rule-shortened game.

In addition to Myers' and Beyer's offensive explosions, the Roughriders had three other players finish with multiple hits. Evelyn Comstock was 3 for 4, including two doubles, with four RBIs and a run, Callie Cooper was 3 for 4, including a triple, with five runs and two RBIs, and Curry finished 3 for 4, also with a triple, with three runs, three stolen bases and an RBI.

Saporito recorded her second win of the day, giving up five runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking none in five innings of work.

The Roughriders return home Saturday for a doubleheader against Jefferson College beginning at 1 p.m.
