The NFL has revealed one of the teams participating in the league's first game in Rio de Janeiro.

The Dallas Cowboys will be playing at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro as part of the NFL's international slate for 2026, the league announced in a statement Feb. 5.

"We are proud to welcome the Dallas Cowboys to Brazil for the first ever NFL game in Rio de Janeiro," said NFL Brazil general manager Luis Martinez. "Introducing one of the league’s most iconic teams to the Maracanã Stadium marks a powerful milestone in the continued growth of the sport worldwide. Bringing a regular-season game to Rio strengthens our connection to a vibrant and passionate football community and underscores our long term commitment to the market."

The NFL has not yet released any additional information about Dallas' opponent for the international game or the date or kickoff time. The league wrote in a press release those elements "will be announced at a later date."

The 2026 Rio de Janeiro game will be the NFL's third in Brazil. The first occurred in 2024, when the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers 34-29 at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo. The second was in 2025, when the Los Angeles Chargers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 27-21 at the same stadium.

Both the Eagles-Packers and Chargers-Chiefs games were contested in Week 1 of their respective NFL seasons. It remains to be seen whether the NFL will take a similar approach with the 2026 Brazil game.

The NFL is planning nine international games in total for the 2026 NFL season. It already announced that the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams would be traveling to Melbourne, Australia. The league will also stage games in London (three), Madrid, Mexico City, Munich and – for the first time ever – Paris.
