The Cowboys opened mandatory minicamp with the knowledge that wideout George Pickens is fully on board. Things took a pause though when head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted quarterback Dak Prescott would be limited due to knee soreness; something he nor the team is overly concerned about.

While things are progressing towards the 2026 season in Dallas, a more somber tone exists around questions the family of former Cowboys edge rusher Aldon Smith is looking to have answered. Smith, who sadly passed away just days ago, had his brain sent to Boston to be tested for CTE and are seeking answers as to what led up to his untimely death.

Elsewhere, like the Cowboys, 10 other teams opened up mandatory mini camps in a final preview before their eventual return in late July. The Saints welcomed back longtime edge Cameron Jordan, while Broncos end Jonathan Cooper is not participating after a domestic abuse case. Falcons edge James Pierce is present for Atlanta, even in the midst of battling a similar charge.

Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice was released from a Dallas jail after violating terms of his probation demonstrating the same football moves off the field evading questions from the media. The same type of evasiveness exists throughout the NFL landscape as to whether former Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby is an option for them in the upcoming supplemental draft.
