Could the Dallas Cowboys have found themselves a surprise UDFA gem once again? Marcellus Johnson escaped from the 2024 draft without being picked, and he was summarily scooped up by the New York GIants following the draft. They gave him a hefty amount of a guarantee, $170,000, on his original deal, but he failed to make their squad out of training camp.

Rundown

He did secure a practice squad spot for a while before being released. He then bounced back and forth between the Giants and Vikings, before landing with the Indianapolis Colts for Training Camp 2025. He was released in October after which he landed with the Cowboys practice squad and earned a reserves/future contract in January, leading to his participation over the summer with Dallas.

Johnson has an uphill battle to earn a roster spot with the Cowboys, and is likely targeting a chance to catch on with the practice squad as he enters his fifth professional season. The Cowboys have uncovered some UDFA sucess stories throughout their recent history, but Johnson has bounced around between so many teams early in his career, this would seriously be a success story for Klayton Adams and Connor Riley.
