Unspeakable tragedy has struck the Dallas Cowboys. The team has announced the untimely passing of second-year defensive end Marshawn Kneeland.
The club said in a statement:
"It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thought and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family."
No details surrounding the circumstances of his death were immediately known.
Kneeland's agent, Jonathan Perzley, confirmed the news in a statement that read, in part:
"Marshawn poured his heart into every snap, every practice, and every moment on the field. To lose someone with his talent, spirit, and goodness is a pain I can hardly put into words. ... I ask that you please give his loved ones the privacy and compassion they need as they grieve this tremendous loss."
Kneeland, 24, was the 56th overall pick in 2024's draft out of Western Michigan. He played in eleven games as a rookie, starting one. This season, he had seen time in seven of the team's nine contests with one start. Kneeland scored the first touchdown in the Cowboys' most recent game when he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone.
