Speaking about the transition, Parker emphasized that while influences from around the league exist, Dallas is focused on building something original rather than replicating a proven system.

“This is our defense. I don't want it to be called the Eagles defense or Vic (Fangio's) defense. This is going to be ours,” Parker said.

Parker just finished his second year as the Philadelphia Eagles' passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach. Before his arrival, Parker coached the defensive backs for the Denver Broncos from 2021 to 2023. In 2023, Parker oversaw a group featuring second-team Associated Press All-Pro safety Justin Simmons and Pro Bowl cornerback Pat Surtain.

The reference to Fangio—whose scheme has influenced defenses across the NFL, including the Philadelphia Eagles—highlights just how widespread certain philosophies have become. But Parker is intent on ensuring the Cowboys’ version stands apart. Parker noted that the approach goes beyond the scheme, touching everything from terminology in Dallas to daily workflow at the Star.

“We've been really intentional about how we approach that process, from the language we use to the workflow we have and everything else,” Parker added.
