According to Sportico, the Dallas Cowboys are once again the most valuable franchise in the NFL, surpassing previous estimations and landing at $15.5 billion. The news should come as no surprise, seeing as it marks the seventh consecutive year for Jerry Jones’ team to accomplish the feat.
The Cowboys have long been one of the league’s glamour franchises and since Jones has been the owner, the team’s valuation has continued to grow. In staying on top as the most valuable franchise in the NFL, the Cowboys’ worth grew 21% from last year.
Ironically, the team that ranked second was the Los Angeles Rams, whom the Cowboys just held a joint practice with on Tuesday. Jones was a big part of bringing the Rams back to L.A. and it has helped their franchises worth grow as well.
Four of the next five teams on the list have all won Super Bowls since 2010, something that has escaped the Cowboys for far too long.
Making money and growing the Cowboys’ brand has never been an issue for the organization. And while it’s a big deal for the Joneses to have the most valuable franchise in the NFL, fans would like to see that translated into winning on the field. It has been 30 years since the team has been to an NFC championship game or won the Lombardi Trophy, something that matters more to Cowboys fans than how much the team is worth.
The Cowboys have one of the league’s best stadiums, they dominate the TV ratings, and their fans show up in droves when they play on the road, so they’ve more than earned the moniker of America’s Team. This is just another confirmation of that fact.
They don’t hang banners for being the most valuable team, but they do for Super Bowl winners, which is also easier for fans to gloat about.
Congratulations to the Dallas Cowboys and the Jones family for once again being the most valuable franchise in the NFL, now they hope to accomplish the daily-double and win the Super Bowl for the fans who have helped achieve that honor.
