Well, it took longer than many wanted/expected, but the Dallas Cowboys got their running back and stayed local with Texas Longhorn Jaydon Blue coming to The Star.

Coming to a running back room that has Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, Deuce Vaughn,Malik Davis, and fellow draftee Phil Mafah, Blue is the speed burner of the room, boasting a crisp 4.38 40-yard dash.

A genuine home-run threat on any down, whether that be in the run or pass game, Jaydon has the type of speed to rival KaVontae Turpin, and we saw what Turpin can do in the open field.

For Cowboys' VP of Player Personnel Will McClay, he detailed what makes Blue such a dangerous weapon.

"At the end of the day, you're looking for explosive playmakers," McClay said. "You put him in the backfield behind what we built in the line and the other guys, and it gives you the opportunity to be explosive. I know Coach Schottenheimer has some tricks up his sleeve to use the skill set he has, but an explosive player that can flip the field for you on carries, can also win in man-to-man coverage versus linebackers. It's just a different speed that he plays with."

Cowboys And Mr. Jaydon Blue At AttBy Tony Fisher

Coming to the Cowboys after three productive seasons with the Longhorns, Blue, as a dual-threat running back, will appeal to Dallas with 50 receptions and seven touchdowns in his college career to go with 1,161 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

But the big thread to pull here is his speed.

Dallas has lacked this type of speed in the backfield since the early days of Tony Pollard, and Blue is quicker than Tony.

With Brian Schottenheimer ready to run the ball, having Blue, who has every chance to be Dallas' starter come Week 1, to be a home-run hitter on any given play gives the Cowboys some genuine fear-factor in the run game.

Many aren't sure of his three-down value, but with Williams and Sanders able pass protectors, maybe Blue could be the change-up lightning bolt at the center of Dak Prescott's offense in 2025.
