Much of the offseason hope and optimism for the Dallas Cowboys centers on the defense, particularly rookie Caleb Downs.
Seen as the crowning piece of Christian Parker's defense, Downs is being seen as the player who can take this unit to where it needs to be, and that is in his rookie season.
We have heard from Brian Schottenheimer that Downs doesn't make the same mistake twice, we've heard glowing endorsements from his fellow defenders, but what about the offensive players?
As training has gotten underway, we have seen Downs hold his own at times against Dak Prescott and one of the best offenses in football.

And after being around Downs since he got drafted to the Cowboys, when asked about Downs in Oxnard, Dak gave a serious tip of the cap to the rookie.
"He's as sharp as a young rookie or young guy I've ever seen," Prescott said. "It starts with his mentality and his approach to the game. It's who he is. Obviously, you see it on the football field. You see it any moment that football is being talked about, whether it's in the meetings or whether it's a walk-through or it's at practice.
"But just to spend time around the guy outside of football, whether it's playing golf or just hanging out, shooting a commercial with him, that's who he is, and that is contagious. He's a young guy that I respect. He's a reason that this is going to be one of our best rookie classes."
Goodness me that is some endorsement.
We know Downs' football IQ is off the charts, and that is showing up on the practice field, with Downs going toe-to-toe with Lamb on a route he got beat on in minicamp, but when that same route was run in Oxnard, Downs reportedly shut it down.
Of course, there will be lessons learned; after all, he is a rookie, but many see Downs as a veteran in a rookie's body, and that should bode well for what he can produce in his first year in the NFL.

And Dak knows this is only the beginning for a player seen as the savior of the defense.
"He's just going to continue to grow, and he takes a lot of pride in being the first pick of the Cowboys and takes a lot of pride in having to step into a defense that everybody was talking about that has to get better," Dak added. "He's as good as any young guy I've been around."
Yes, it might only be early, and we haven't even seen Caleb with pads on, but everything we are seeing and hearing tells us the Cowboys already have a difference-maker on defense.
And if Prescott is speaking so glowingly about a rookie, you know that he is the real deal.
