WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The Laurel Spartans are looking to take another step forward this fall after finishing 5-5 last season.
Laurel will lean on a pair of senior leaders in quarterback Demerius Custis and wide receiver/defensive back Kareem Oyekan as the Spartans prepare for the 2026 season.
With experience returning at key positions, head coach Devonne Powell believes leadership will be an important part of Laurel’s success as the Spartans look to improve on last year’s record.
Powell said the team will need its veteran players to set the tone and help guide a Laurel squad hoping to make its mark this season.
DC New Now intern Heaven Samuel spoke to the team as they prepare for the 2026 season.
