If the Boston Celtics head into draft day with their eyes on landing a point guard to fill a genuine need within the rotation, Bennett Stirtz could be their guy. The Iowa Hawkeyes guard is entering the NBA following two impressive seasons in the collegiate ranks. This past season, Stirtz put up 19.8 points, 4.4 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 35.8 percent from 3-point range and 47.7 percent from deep.
Stirtz is a reliable shot creator, playmaker and scoring threat. He can run the pick-and-roll, operate off the ball, and play as a connector within the seams. He projects to be a rookie who could fit Joe Mazzulla's offensive system, although there are certainly some fair questions regarding his pace and defensive impact at the next level.
During a recent podcast episode from "How 'Bout Them Celtics?" hosts Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance broke down Stirtz's game, where he could make an impact, and areas of concern as he makes the jump to the NBA game. The duo also broke down what type of role he could expect with the Celtics, and whether he could earn minutes in the upcoming season.
